Aeroelastic Tailoring of Composite Wings: Increasing Flutter Speed via Ply Orientation
Project type
Research & Analysis
Date
October 2025 - December 2025
Location
Worcester, MA
Project Presentation
Project Report
Completed a written report and presentation regarding composite laminate tailoring to negate undesirable aeroelastic effects such as flutter. Defined the key structural and dynamic relationships of composite beams as a simplified model for elastic wings, and the ability of composite laminates to affect such properties. Additionally related the composite tailoring to newfound methods of finding optimal composite tailoring solutions with a fast tree regression algorithm utilized in "Flutter Optimization of Carbon/Epoxy Plates Based on a Fast Tree Algorithm" (Dinulović, M., Bengin, A., Krstić, B., Dodić, M., & Vorkapić, M. (2024). ). Lastly, related the research and analysis to real-world engineering problems.
